Bake 52 Week 12: Palmiers

Something went terribly wrong for me. I don't know what exactly, but as soon as I started making the pastry dough I had a feeling that this wasn't going to end well. And it didn't. Prepare yourselves...

(I'm preparing you)

Yup.  To see how they should really look, go to Bekah's blog.

This is my first time attempting to make a pastry dough.  In fact, I've never even made pie crust!  I've always counted on my Mom and sisters to do that kind of stuff.  I literally spent all day making these cookies.  I am feeling a bit discouraged after all that work.  Anyone want to tell me what I did wrong?  Here is what they looked like before I baked them:

Nothing about this recipe looked right, even from the beginning.  Oh well.  You win some, you lose some.

  1. Haha....I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't succeed this week! Mine did turn out a bit prettier than yours (as in, I wound up with seperate cookies!) but they didn't taste all that great!

  2. It happens to everyone! Seriously the first time I made croissants they looked just about like that. They are pretty similar except croissants have yeast. It helped me to watch a video and I learned I had been doing some things wrong. Bummer that you spent all day and they didn't turn out, that is really frustrating. Here is the croissant video I watched, if you search they might even have one for palmiers. I hope this helps.

  3. Too bad they didn't turn out although you could just claim that you were trying to make a life size elephant ear. :-) Did you taste them? I say if they taste good it doesn't matter how they look it is still a success.

  4. Your pics did make me laugh, but with you not at! Last week my Ciabatta bread looked like a dirty rock and tasted as such. All your other stuff looks amazing!

  5. I've been wanting to try my hand at pastries as well, but making pastry dough scares me. Let me know if you figure it out.
